I start this Edition with a confession.
I don't know my readers.
I thought I did, but I was obviously wrong.
I am not going to go into specifics at this stage. To do so would be counter productive. Suffice to say, if I were to hand out grades today for feedback and participation, the majority of students would be receiving an F.
My first Edition for 2006 was a HUGE one! This one is no different. It didn't start off that way, but, by the time I had finished it, another HUGE one resulted. (Could it be because I tend to ramble on a bit? Mmmmm ... :o)

That has nothing to do with the following article, I just had to vent. LOL
Today's article is about marketing 'hype,' 'ploys' and 'copy cat' marketers and veers off at a tangent towards the end, so bear with me. LOL
Mike Filsaime has written a Marketing Plan called Butterfly Marketing. To get everyone revved up about it, he is giving two of the packages away as prizes. To enter, you have to post why you would like to win it on his blog. He has picked one winner already. The other winner is being chosen on the 31st January. (It might be me!)
When interest and responses tapered off, he released what he called a 'leaked chapter' of his package to hype it up again. It was so see through and pathetic that I nearly withdrew my entry. The report itself was good but it was filled with countless spelling errors, not what one would expect from a top marketer, one who is trying to convince you that his high priced package is a 'must buy.' I actually told him in my blog post, to sack his proof reader and hire me. LOL I had a number of supporters which was comforting, as they had no idea who I was.
Then came "I had a great time in Costa Rica" and the "there are going to be some fast action bonuses offered," with the tag line "wait for the sales page."
Then Mike became 'worried' that no-one was believing his statement of earnings, so he produced a video which showed his paypal earnings. Sheeeeeeesh!
Two days ago, I received an email advising me of ANOTHER super hot package that is being released, this time on the 28th. (To beat Mike's launch?) It is being offered by Song Chengxiang with the title of Organizer of "The Best High Ticket Deal Ever" Well guess what? He has set up a blog, just like Mike and, yes, he just happens to be giving away two of his packages as prizes to the best entries explaining why they should win it!
Yes, I entered. Mine is the second entry on his blog.
If I don't win either competition, I have my link on their blogs and it is being viewed by many. EXPOSURE! I also met some very interesting people who were also participating. That was the upside of the experience.
The downside was reading some of the grovelling posts, the desperation, the bared souls, of people saying whatever they could to 'convince' these two marketers to give them the prize, to make THEM the winner. One blogger on Song's blog, summed it up perfectly. He wrote, "You just want to see how people go about begging without actually begging." So true!
There was so much negativity on Mike's blog as well. It was depressing to say the least, but it was an eye opener. There are so many out there that need our assistance in their efforts. It's just a matter of 'connecting' with them via our usual marketing efforts and, maybe, something along the lines of what Mike and Song are doing.

Question? Has anyone noticed that there is an advertising 'war' happening on the Internet?
"What's the crazy old Aussie wizard talking about now?" I hear you asking yourselves.
I refer you to the recent release of the Impact PopUp Creator. No doubt, you were flooded with emails advising of it's release, with the asking price of most being $37.00. A couple were selling it for $47.00 and one greedy marketer was asking $67.00. Some gave other bonuses away and some included Master Resell Rights.
One marketer was selling it for less than the others, so I purchased it because I have always wanted the Software to make those little sticky notes that appear on your screen. He included Master Resell Rights with it, so if you're like me and just gotta have one of these yourself, CLICK HERE :o)
Back to my story.
After I had paid for it, there was a glitch with his download page. I emailed him and took the opportunity to ask him why he was selling it for such a lower price. His answer indicated that the 'others' had got together and 'fixed' the price between themselves and he didn't want to be a part of it. He also had a score to settle with a few of them, so he undercut them to pay them back.
That action, to me, indicates a 'war' is evident and, if you are marketing anything that these guys are involved with, it will make it so much harder for you to sell your product. As it currently stands, you can buy a product from a marketer one day for $47.00, only to see later that he is now giving it away. I have an issue with people who do that. I don't think it is either ethical or fair and the honest marketer who is trying to make a living, is being chopped down by their actions.
Am I being NAIVE in my outlook and perception or do you AGREE with me? Comments please.

DaOnce Upon A WizTime
~ Revealing the 'personal' side of your Editor ~
Held in the Magical and Mystical Gardens that surround Castle DOSE
Relax in the serenity and enjoy the smell of the flowers.
Approximately 5 years ago, I left my above-ground pool unmaintenanced. I told my Sister-In-Law that I was waiting on ducks to come and make their home in it. She told me that there was no way that ducks would visit. Within a week, two ducks made my pool their home! We named them JenJen and Kwackles. Both ducks kept returning and they brought other ducks with them. There have been times when there has been 7 ducks swimming around in the pool. They are wild ducks but I can hand feed them. They are very trusting.
Two months ago, Kwackles had babies AT MY NEIGHBOR'S HOUSE! I was shattered at the news. I had fed her for 5 years and she chose to have her family elsewhere. It wasn't fair!
In early December, I noticed one of the 'newer' duck visitors, jump off the side of our pool and disappear into the surrounding bushes. I became excited! I kept a vigil until I saw her come out and fly off. When I checked the area where she had been, I found a nest with at least 5 white eggs in it. I was ELATED at the find! I checked it daily every time she flew off and researched incubation times, etc.
On Wednesday, 28th December, I awoke to the sound of little chirping sounds. I rushed outside to find a proud mummy duck showing off her NINE newborn ducklings! Honestly, I cried at this beautiful sight. There were 8 little yellow faced ducklings and one with a white face. I immediately nicknamed him 'Whitey.'
Well, as always happens in nature, the 'smallest,' the 'odd one out,' the 'ugly duckling,' always gets singled out and Whitey was the obvious candidate from day 1. Mummy duck would grab him and try and hold him under the water. He was smart though. He would see her coming and vanish underwater, bobbing up somewhere away from her. When mummy duck was at one end of the pool with the rest of the ducklings, Whitey was down the other end in the pool's skimmer box. It was really sad to see. He had done nothing wrong to deserve to be singled out like he was and he appeared to be so lonely.
Well, when day 3 arrived, we experienced our hottest day for our current Summer. It was 42.5 degrees Celsius (108.5 degrees Fahrenheit). During the course of the day, Whitey disappeared. Where he went or what happened to him, I have no idea. It seemed fate played it's hand and the unwanted Whitey just vanished!
UPDATE:
My little ducklings aren't little anymore. They are just over 3 weeks old and they are HUGE! Mummy duck has found another one to pick on who hasn't developed at the same rate as the others. He isn't included in any of the group activities, he eats on his own and also sleeps on his own. He will survive though. I see it in his cheeky smile. (Yes, ducks smile).

I hate it when people request information about your homebased business and then do not have the decency to answer your emails. I know this is part and parcel of internet marketing and the vast majority of people will sign up for anything if its free and just fill in forms willy nilly....but still if they are not interested I wish they would not waste my time!
I asked Rachel how she handled this time wasting and did she ever follow them up? Following is her response.
Did once do that - got so fed up, I wrote asking why they had wasted my time and that got them to respond (if not particularly pleasantly) and of course you got the usual things that I was spamming them and they had never requested info. When I forwarded them the original form time stamped with thir IP they never got back to me. Funny that!

As Rachel so correctly concluded, it is all part and parcel of what we have to endure, doing what we do on the Internet. I experience it when people Subscribe to my Ezine and don't bother to confirm their Subscription.
I also detest those who email you, and when you respond, you are asked to jump through hoops and validate your email address so they will accept your email. Not a good practice!
There really isn't an answer to the problem. If everyone knew and practiced 'netiquette' it would be a whole lot easier. But, with all the new and inexperienced people hitting the Net daily to make 'their fortune,' it will be an ongoing problem forever!
If I ever DO find the answer, YOU ALL will be the first to know.
